Steph McGovern has sent out an urgent appeal to her followers just days after Channel 4 announced that they would be axing her show, Steph’s Packed Lunch.
The 41-year-old presenter made a plea on the official Instagram page of Steph’s Packed Lunch and urged her fans to vote for them for Best Daytime Show at the TV Choice Awards.
The tongue-in-cheek video statement said: “This is an appeal on behalf of Steph’s Packed Lunch.
“They struggle every day under the bright studio lights to entertain the British public. But until now, they’ve never won Best Daytime Show at the TV Choice Awards. Can you help ease their pain?”
Steph is featured in the footage alongside fellow presenters Denise Van Outen and Alan Johnson, who pull sad faces and pretend to fake cry.
An interactive link was also included as the video continued: “Do you want to see Alan Johnson cry?”
The appeal comes just a few weeks after Channel 4 announced that it would be axing Steph’s Packed Lunch after three years.
Launching in 2020, Steph McGovern broadcasted the show initially from her living room in her home during lockdown.
A Channel 4 spokesperson told Express.co.uk: “We’re so grateful to Steph, Expectation, Can Can and the brilliant production team for creating a show that kickstarted our growth in the north of England.”
The broadcaster continued: “However, with audience habits changing quicker than ever, we have to make difficult decisions about which programmes to invest in to best drive our digital-first strategy.
“We have decided not to recommission Steph’s Packed Lunch when its existing production contract ends in December 2023.”
The Channel 4 show had built up a loyal following over the years and was regularly broadcasted from Leeks dock with a live audience.
Fellow presenter Denise Van Outen led tributes on Instagram following the show’s cancellation.
She said: “@channel4 have announced that @packedlunchc4 will not be returning in 2024. This is incredibly sad news for the whole team behind and in-front of the cameras.”
