Nigel Farage recalled the extent of the injuries he sustained in his 2010 plane crash during Tuesday’s episode of I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!

The former UKIP leader, 59, had been flying in a light plane carrying a Brexit banner when it wrapped around the tail and rudder, causing the plane to nosedive to the ground.

He was rushed to an Oxford hospital and left so badly injured that he had to have neck reconstruction, major spinal surgery and his leg in plaster for a year.

However, his issues were not over as it was claimed three lovers rushed to his bedside after his near-fatal crash.

In 2017, Nigel’s alleged mistress Annabelle Fuller, 42, claimed that she was stopped from entering the hospital to ensure she did not bump into his ex-wife, Kirsten.

Nigel’s former speechwriter and adviser told Mail On Sunday: “A friend rang to tell me about the crash, followed immediately by a party official who said that I should make my way to the hospital as no one else was there.

“I was shaking with worry by the time I got there. I didn’t even make it inside before a woman who said she was his local aide barred my way. We had never met but she must have been waiting at the entrance because she suddenly rushed out and said: ‘You can’t be here – Kirsten is here. You’ve got to go’.”

Ms Fuller claimed that the politician later called her from the hospital to apologise for the way she was treated but says she later discovered that another woman, Laure Ferrari, was already there.

She added to the newspaper: “She must have been already nearby to have arrived at the hospital first.

“I’m told that UKIP members were trying to calm her down and move her out before Kirsten got there. They definitely didn’t want me to meet Laure either.”

In the subsequent months, Ms Fuller said that her mental health deteriorated and she decided to leave UKIP.

Around the same time, it was reported that Nigel had been living with Ms Ferrari, but he denied having a romantic relationship with her.

He told the aforementioned publication: “She is someone I have worked with and known for a long time who wanted somewhere to stay for a week that wouldn’t cost her any money. It’s a working relationship. You can inflate it however you want to.”

He separately issued a response to Ms Fuller’s claims, but did not confirm nor deny that they had an affair.

A statement read, as reported by The Independent: “At the time of Ms Fuller’s employment the party did not know there was a history of mental illness and other serious personal issues. I always tried to help her, recognising that she had ability, and prevented her from being fired on several occasions.”

I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! airs at 9pm on ITV.
