It’s not Christmastime until… Cher hits the dance floor.
The timeless diva performed “DJ Play a Christmas Song” from her brand-new Christmas album at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday (Nov. 23), and she turned the parade route into a dance club, performing on a silver stage flanked by dancers dressed like discofied toy soldiers.
A troupe of silver-clad dancers also surrounded the stage and carried giant red hearts out for the grande finale.
The club-banger Christmas song recalls one of Cher’s biggest hits, 1998’s “Believe,” with its vocoder-assisted vocals and insistent beat. “DJ Play a Christmas Song” debuted at No. 3 on Billboard‘s Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales chart last month — Cher’s highest-peaking song on the chart — while its parent album, Christmas, debuted atop Billboard‘s Top Holiday Albums earlier this month.
In a recent interview with Billboard about the new album, Cher explained, “They’re not ‘Christmas Christmas’ songs, OK? They’re just great songs. And I never say that because I almost never like what I do. But I mean, people love it and I’m happy. I’m so particular, but I love the songs and everyone who hears them loves them.”
One of the biggest fans of Cher’s parade performance was Flavor Flav: The Public Enemy rapper was shown onscreen wildly applauding from the crowd as the song wrapped up.
Social media is loving it too — even if one fan on X wondered: “Is Cher singing ‘DJ Play a Christmas Song’ or did someone spike my coffee with absinthe?”
