Not even the Taylor Swift-Travis Kelce craze could keep the Week 15 matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and New England Patriots in the “Monday Night Football” spotlight.
The NFL announced on Thursday that it had made its first-ever MNF flex, swapping out the Chiefs-Patriots matchup for the Philadelphia Eagles’ road game against the Seattle Seahawks.
This season marks the first year that the league can exercise its flex option on “Monday Night Football” games between Week 12 and Week 17, with the deadline to make the switch being 12 days out.
The game between the Chiefs and Patriots is now scheduled to be played on Sunday, Dec. 17 at 1 p.m. and highlights just how far New England’s draw has fallen due to its 2-9 season thus far.
The Chiefs have been in the spotlight this season, not only for being the defending Super Bowl champions, but also due to star tight end Travis Kelce’s high-profile romance with international superstar Taylor Swift.
Still, the Pats’ tough 2023 has clearly made them lose their luster to the NFL.
They are, however, still scheduled to play two more primetime games this season.
The Patriots are scheduled to play the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 14 on “Thursday Night Football” and they’ll take on the Denver Broncos on Christmas Eve.
The Eagles, on the other hand, have been one of the best teams in football all season and sit at 10-1 through the first 12 weeks of the season.
The newly moved game will be Philadelphia’s sixth primetime game of the year and it will occur a week after they play the Dallas Cowboys under the bright lights of “Sunday Night football.”
The Eagles are also slated to play the Giants the week after on Christmas Day on “Monday Night Football,” putting Philly in the primetime spotlight for three consecutive weeks.
