Tyreek Hill is laughing about how he couldn’t quite become the apple of Patrick Mahomes’ eye.
Hill appeared on Robert Griffin III’s “RG3 and the Ones” podcast, and was asked about whether he has a better connection with Tua Tagovailoa in Miami than he did with Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City.
“Pat had (Travis) Kelce and I was kinda jealous. I was hurt. Patrick, you ain’t never invited me over to your house like you did Kelce, that’s why we here where we at now,” Hill joked.
As Hill gave this answer, he burst out laughing, and clarified immediately that he was “bulls–tting.”
Griffin interjected that with Mahomes, it was almost as if Kelce was 1-A and Hill was 1-B whereas with Tagovailoa, Hill is the clear top receiver.
“I’ve never been anybody’s side chick before. Always, my whole life,” Hill said. “High school, middle school — all the quarterbacks’ main chick. I go to KC, now I’m the side chick. I’m like, ‘What’s going on with that?’ I want to go to Capital Grille. I want to go to Eddie V’s. You taking me to Joe’s BBQ. I don’t want no BBQ. I want to go to the fancy restaurants.”
It’s an interesting question as to which of Mahomes or Hill misses the other more.
The easy answer would be that Mahomes and the Chiefs won the Super Bowl last season, and that Mahomes also won the regular season NFL MVP award and is in contention to do it again.
Meanwhile, Hill’s Dolphins got knocked out in the wild-card round of the playoffs last season while Tagovailoa missed the end of the year in concussion protocol.
However, it’s pretty clear there’s a void in the Chiefs’ receiving corps, and Hill is in striking distance of setting the all-time single season receiving yardage record this year.
Net in net, it might still be premature to declare a winner and loser of the Mahomes/Hill breakup.
