You just can not get to the 1-yard line two separate times and end up with zero points.
That was the difference.
The Giants’ play-calling in the red zone was atrocious and so was their execution.
The Bills got bailed out by a brutal no-call on the final play of the game, but the Giants need to find a way to get a touchdown there with a better play-call.
The end of the first half is probably more on Tyrod Taylor, but had the Giants tallied at least a field goal there they likely win the game.
Instead, the Giants lost, 14-9, in Buffalo. They fall to 1-5 on the season. They have key injuries all over the place, especially on the offensive line. This team just cannot figure out how to score a single touchdown and it’s a shell of the miraculous team we watched last season.
Things are going to have to change quick because their playoff hopes are seemingly already toast.
To react to the heartbreaking loss to the Bills, we bring you a new “Blue Rush” podcast with Lawrence Tynes and Brandon London.
Blue Rush Podcast with Lawrence Tynes & Brandon London:
- RED ZONE FAILURES: Two plays from the one and no points. That’s the difference. Taylor cost the team a potential win by changing to a run at the end of the first half and running out of time without scoring. They could have taken two or three end zone shots but instead ran one play, failed and time ran out. Taylor played pretty well though.
- JUSTIN PUGH/O-LINE: Pugh deserves a ton of credit. Came off his couch to the Giants and played well, even having to switch to left tackle with all the injuries. O-line played pretty well, considering all the injuries.
- OFFENSE HAS BEEN OFFENSIVE: Going 13 quarters without a touchdown is inexcusable. It’s poor coaching and poor execution. Will Brian Daboll take over play-calling? The defense has carried them. Saquon Barkley’s return was critical for this offense and they need him out there.
- WHERE TO GO: Where do Giants go from here at 1-5? The Commanders come to MetLife Stadium on Sunday. The schedule gets a bit easier, but no game is easy for this team. Daboll is the right coach for this team. Have to take it one game at a time and try and sneak back in the race. The first step is the offense scoring a touchdown.
