Following her exit from I’m A Celebrity, it has been claimed Danielle Harold put on a very brave face while battling an illness in the Australian jungle. According to reports, the former EastEnders actress, 31, was close to being forced to quit the ITV show, as she required medical attention from a doctor due to a “nasty infection”.
The Sun claims Danielle nearly lost a stone in weight at the time, while I’m A Celeb viewers had no idea of her health ordeal, as it wasn’t shown on-screen. According to the publication, petite Danielle told a friend: “I felt wiped out, so rough and unwell, but I was determined to stay in there.
“I hadn’t gone all that way for it to end like that.” The reports come after Danielle’s campmates Grace Dent and Jamie Lynn Spears both bowed out of the jungle on medical grounds, whereas the actress refused to follow suit.
A source claimed: “Danielle fell ill at the start of the show and developed a really nasty infection which made her very unwell. It was all kept off camera and she just kept powering through.
“Danielle was seen by the camp doctor several times. They were very concerned but rather than throw in the towel she wanted to stay the course.”
The source added of her resilience: “She didn’t want to have to leave the show to go to hospital.
“There were times in that first week when she really struggled.
“The medics kept her closely monitored and she had to see them several times to make sure the infection was kept under control.
“But she was very unwell for a few days and lost nearly a stone.”
Danielle appeared to hint at her behind-the-scenes struggles when she became the fifth celebrity to be eliminated from I’m A Celebrity 2023.
Speaking to the press at the celebrities’ Marriott Hotel on the Gold Coast, Danielle said: “The jungle eats you alive.
“You have on and off days. There is no food. And my adrenaline gets me so bad.
“It is so tough. But I just smiled, even through the tough times.”
