A high-ankle sprain could not force Trevor Lawrence to sit.

Lawrence is active and starting for the Jaguars on Sunday against the Browns in Cleveland, just six days after suffering a high-ankle sprain on “Monday Night Football” in a loss to the Bengals.

He was evaluated in warmups, but Jacksonville decided that Lawrence’s consecutive games played streak — which stretches back to high school — could continue.

Operating out of caution, Jacksonville signed Nathan Rourke from their practice squad as an extra this week.

If Lawrence had not been able to go, C.J. Beathard would have gotten the start.

It is already the second time this season that Lawrence has played through injury.

He suffered a left knee injury in mid-October against the Colts but played just five days later in a Thursday night match against the Saints.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Jaguars believed Lawrence’s physical and mental capabilities were strong enough to get through the high-ankle sprain, which is normally a multi-week injury.

This is an important game for Lawrence to play as well, with the Jaguars entering the day a game ahead of the Colts for the AFC South.

Jacksonville is seeking a second-straight division title, which would be their first such feat in nearly 25 years, with the last coming in 1998 and 1999.
