Shannon Sharpe recognizes he looked a little bit different on Monday.
The Pro Football Hall of Famer often goes viral amid his spots on ESPN’s “First Take” with Stephen A. Smith for what he has to say, but on Monday, it happened for how he looked — dripping with makeup.
Memes ensued, with X user Teddy Mason remarking that Sharpe looked “like a mean lunch lady”, while another commenter posted a photo of Dave Chapelle dressed up as Prince serving pancakes.
Wrote the parody account Shannon Sharpeee, who tracks Sharpe’s every move: “I’m sorry but they did unc Shannon sharpe wrong af on first take today man smh got him looking like Randy Jackson”
When Sharpe got off-air, he explained what happened.
“Appreciate the concern over my makeup this morning on @FirstTake,” Sharpe tweeted.
“This was her 1st time doing my makeup and it was a little heavy. My appearance is important not as important as my takes. Hopefully, the takes were gr8 as usual. #LipSparringChamp #BestDressed #Espn”
When one replier wrote that the “poor girl is finished,” Sharpe responded, “No she isn’t. She’ll get better with my makeup. Isn’t the end of the world.”
Another user told Sharpe that he looked like Juwanna Mann, the transgender basketball player from the 2002 comedy film of the same title. Sharpe responded, “I’ll live and [am] still extremely blessed.”
Sharpe began appearing on “First Take” multiple times a week in September after leaving FS1’s “Undisputed” following a nearly seven-year partnership with Skip Bayless.
Last week on the program, he issued an apology to Tom Brady for not giving him enough credit for the Patriots dynasty.
“No, I don’t think he’s just another coach, I think the success he’s had with his team over the last two decades is something to be applauded and commended,” Sharpe said in response to a question about whether Bill Belichick was a mediocre coach.
“I think what has happened, and I can just speak for me, is I owe Brady an apology because I don’t think I gave him enough credit. I should’ve given him even more credit, because what Brady allowed coach Belichick to do, Brady is the largest eraser in pro sports.”
