Between 1984 and 1994, Eddie Murphy starred in the Beverly Hills Cop trilogy as Detroit cop Axel Foley, who travels to Beverly Hills in Los Angeles to investigate a crime out of his jurisdiction.
Beverly Hills Cop 4 was originally set for release in the mid-1990s but was in development hell for years, until now.
Having made Coming 2 America 33 years after the original, now it was time for Murphy to reprise another one of his 1980s comedy characters in a legacy sequel.
The new Netflix movie also features the return of Judge Reinhold’s Lieutenant Billy Rosewood (Beverly Hills Cops trilogy), Paul Reiser’s Detective Jeffrey Friedman (Beverly Hills Cop II) and both John Ashton and Bronson Pinchot as Sergeant John Taggart and Serge (Beverly Hills Cop III) respectively.
Joining the cast are Taylor Paige as Jane, Axel’s estranged daughter, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Detective Bobby Abbott and Kevin Bacon as Captain Grant.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F’s official synopsis reads: “Detective Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) is back on the beat in Beverly Hills. After his daughter’s life is threatened, she (Taylour Paige) and Foley team up with a new partner (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and old pals Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold) and John Taggart (John Ashton) to turn up the heat and uncover a conspiracy.”
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F hits Netflix Summer 2024.
