Zara Tindall may be a member of the royal family, but she never wants to be known as a princess.

The 42-year-old daughter of Princess Anne got candid on a recent episode of Rob Burrow’s Total Sport podcast, saying she’s fortunate that her mom didn’t give her a royal title.

Burrow, who is a former rugby player battling motor neuron disease, asked the equestrian if she had advice for her younger self.

Zara went on to discuss her relief with Anne, 73, not letting herself and her older brother, Peter Phillips, 46, become full-time working members of the Firm.

“From my point of view, I was obviously very lucky that my mother didn’t give us any titles so I really commend her on that,” Zara explained.

The granddaughter of the late Queen Elizabeth went on: “We were very lucky that we got to do it a bit our own way.”

“My family has a great work ethic as well which I’m hoping they instilled in me and is still going to this day,” she noted.

Zara married ex-rugby sportsman Mike Tindall in 2011 and they share three children: Mia, 9, Lena, 5, and Lucas, 2.

“Hopefully, we can pass it onto our kids,” Zara added. “Now, my brother and my cousins love to go back and do the same things and I hope that our children have the same experiences that we did when we were growing up.”

“You don’t really appreciate that until you’re older and you’ve got kids.”

The Princess Royal made the decision not to give her offspring HRH monikers when they were born because she wanted to give them an easier childhood.

Anne welcomed Zara in 1981 and Peter in 1977 with her first husband, Mark Phillips.

In a 2020 interview with Vanity Fair, Anne noted that refusing to give her children titles “was probably the right thing to do.”

“I think it was probably easier for them, and I think most people would argue that there are downsides to having titles,” she said.

At the time of Zara’s birth she was sixth in line of succession to the British throne and is currently the 21st.

When Peter was born, he was the fifth in line and now holds the 18th spot.

Princess Anne is two years younger than big brother King Charles III, 75. The late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip were also parents of sons Prince Andrew, Duke of York, 63, and Prince Edward, Duke of Edinburgh, 59.

Charles and the late Princess Diana gave sons Prince William and Prince Harry titles, while Andrew and ex-wife Sarah Ferguson did the same with daughters Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. Edward and wife Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh, however, styled their children’s names as Lady Louise Windsor and James, Earl of Wessex.

Earlier this month, it was revealed that Anne was named the hardest working member of the royal family in 2023 for attending 457 engagements within the last year.
