Josie Gibson debuted a new strawberry blonde hair colour on ITV earlier today – and it seemed that special guest Mathew Knowles couldn’t get enough of her visage. The flirtatious father of musical superstar Beyoncé, who once served as her manager, revealed that meeting Josie had been a blast from the past after recognising her from years earlier, before complimenting her on her “wonderful” look.

The 72-year-old had been in the studio along with Josie and Craig Doyle to discuss his launch of a new scholarship at the London College of Contemporary Music. Mathew kicked off the interview by sharing: “I’ll just say I remember Josie from back in the day and she was surprised that I remember her!”

He revealed that he thinks a sensational aesthetic is paramount when it comes to succeeding as a musician, suggesting: “It is very important, with females, their image.” Then he made it clear that he thought Josie fits the bill, exclaiming: “Look at you, look at this wonderful image!”

A blushing Josie, who dressed to impress in a marble print top and high waisted trousers, later told him: “Thank you for recognising me after all these years!” He responded: “Of course, how could I forget those blue eyes?”

Meanwhile, Mathew gave an insight into what it was like managing Beyoncé, first in Destiny’s Child in the 1990s and then as a solo artist, before parting ways with her professionally back in 2011. The proud parent revealed that he still “pinches” himself when he looks back on what his daughter – the artist with the most Grammy Awards of all time – has accomplished.

“Beyoncé [and her sister Solange] are the only female siblings that had a number one record in the history of music in the same year,” he added.

Although some have suggested that Mathew was strict and demanding as a manager, he insisted that Beyonce’s intense work ethic originated due to her passion for what she does.

“It wasn’t about what I wanted the kids to be, it was what their passion was… the role of a parent is just to support your kids with their passion, give them the tools, not for you to decide what they want to be,” he stated.

He revealed that he’d known his daughters had something special when they were children, adding that the “greats” like Michael Jackson and Taylor Swift had been discovered in their youth.

“They were very young when they felt this fire,” he exclaimed.

Explaining that “passion is what fuels success”, he also confessed that he was careful not to let the opposite sex become a “distraction” for Beyoncé in achieving her goals.

“I’ve worked with a lot of girl groups… the boys can become a problem,” he explained.

‘But you know, when I first met [potential love interests], I would squeeze their hands so hard and look them in the eye. They’d be like, ‘He’s crazy!”” he joked.
