Mother’s Day 2024 is here on Sunday, May 12.
If you want a low-key afternoon on the couch with Mom, there’s a whole slew of movies and TV shows themed to the holiday. Some are recent releases, others are classic staples.
Here’s everything to keep on your radar this year.
“The Idea of You”
This recent release is a rom com, and it’s not strictly mom-themed. But, Anne Hathaway’s character is a mom in it, and there are some cute mother / daughter moments. The movie follows Solène Marchand (Hathaway), a divorced single mom in her 40s who gets into a relationship with Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine), a 24-year-old boy band star.

“Mother’s Day”
This 2016 star-studded flick follows a wide range of people during the holiday, including divorced mom Sandy (Jennifer Aniston), adopted Kristin (Britt Robertson) meeting her birth mom Miranda (Julia Roberts), and more. Jason Sudeikis, Timothy Olyphant and Shay Mitchell co-star.

“Mommy Meanest”
Lisa Rinna stars with her real daughter, Delilah Hamlin. Divorced mother Madelyn (Rinna) and her daughter Mia (Briana Skye) have a close bond that gets strained when Mia starts getting threatening text messages. Hamlin plays Mia’s friend, Summer.

“Modern Family”
In Season 2 episode 21, “Mothers Day,” Claire (Julia Bowen) and Gloria (Sofia Vergara) want to go hiking for Mother’s Day, but after their kids complain, they go without them. Meanwhile, Phil (Ty Burrell) and Jay (Ed O’Neill) cook dinner for the family.

“Orange Is the New Black”
In Season 3 episode 1, “Mothers Day,” Caputo (Nick Sandow) organizes a Mother’s Day Fair for the inmates and their moms, which has mixed results.

“Freaky Friday”
In the 2003 movie, single mother Tess Coleman (Jamie Lee Curtis) and her teenage daughter Anna (Lindsay Lohan) who don’t get along wake up to find out that they switched bodies.

“Everybody Loves Raymond”
In Season 6 episode 22, “Mother’s Day,” Marie (Doris Roberts) and Debra (Patricia Heaton), get into a fight, and try to make Frank (Peter Boyle), Ray (Ray Romano) and Robert (Brad Garrett) pick sides.

“30 Rock”
In season 4, episode 20, “The Moms,” the cast and crew of “The Girlie Show with Tracy Jordan” celebrate the holiday with their moms coming to visit. Meanwhile, Jack Donaghy (Alec Baldwin) deals with a visit from his mom, Colleen (Elaine Stritch). Liz (Tina Fey) also learns that her mother’s true love wasn’t her father, it was Buzz Aldrin.

“Everything Everywhere All at Once”
In the Oscar-winning 2022 genre-bending movie, Chinese immigrant Evelyn (Michele Yeoh) travels through the multiverse, and her adventure also leads her to reckon with her complicated relationship with her daughter, Joy (Stephanie Hsu).

“The Goldbergs”
In Season 3, episode 22, “Smother’s Day,” Barry (Troy Gentile) and Erica (Hayley Orrantia) forget about Mother’s Day. The two scramble to come up with “mom coupons” as a last-minute gift to their mom, Beverly (Wendi McLendon-Covey).

“The Sound of Music”
The hills are alive….in the original 1965 movie, former nun Maria (Julie Andrews) becomes the governess to the von Trapp family, and soon becomes a mother-figure to the kids – eventually marrying Captain von Trapp (Christopher Plummer) and becoming their stepmom.

“Mamma Mia!”
The 2008 musical comedy follows Donna (Meryl Streep), a mom who is preparing for her daughter’s wedding. Meanwhile, the bride, Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) has invited three men who might be her father: Irish American architect Sam Carmichael (Pierce Brosnan), Swedish travel writer Bill Anderson (Stellan Skarsgard) and British banker Harry Bright (Colin Firth).
