The sun, it seems, has finally arrived and with the warmer weather remaining, many shoppers have been snapping up a pair of linen shorts from high street favourite Marks & Spencer, praising them for being ‘smart’, ‘comfortable’ and oh-so ‘flattering’.

The pure linen high-waisted shorts cost only £29.50 from the British favourite and come in four different colours – black, white, navy and beige. They’re so popular, in fact that despite only recently launching on the website four sizes have sold out already in the black shade and the remaining colours have had a flurry of customers buying them – at the time of writing over 50 have been sold in the last 48 hours alone.

The reason they’re so sought after, we understand, is because not only are they the ultimate office to social barbecue shorts thanks to their elegant cut that makes them great for more formal events – paired with a chic shirt and ballet pumps or loafers – and flattering high waist (that features gorgeous pleats), but they’re easily dressed down with trainers or sandals and a graphic tee.

Crafted from pure linen, as the name suggests, the shorts – which come in sizes six to 24 – are incredibly lightweight and, unlike many linen garments, do not fall victim to the dreaded creasing, as one shopper pointed out.

Shoppers are also fond of these shorts because of their length – which falls to mid-low thigh. One shopper said: “Cool stylish linen shorts. Lovely holiday shorts good length mid-thigh to low thigh on me. Crisp linen creasing minimal Cool and comfortable flattering style.”

Another shared how they thought they were better than a more expensive ‘premium’ brand and said: “I love these shorts. Great fit, value and style. I had ordered a similar white, linen, pair of shorts from a premium brand, at double the price, to compare and contrast with the M&S equivalent. Needless to say they went back and I’m definitely keeping these for my holidays.”

A third loved how they were a ‘flattering shape and great quality’.

While the style, shape and overall design of the shorts are flawless, some shoppers reflected on the white shade’s transparency, commenting how they were forced to send them back after purchasing because “unfortunately the white fabric was completely see through.” However that didn’t stop them from keeping the black shade because of the ‘really nice style and fit’, reports The Mirror.

Linen is on the wishlist of every shopper this summer, it seems, and it’s no surprise that M&S isn’t the only high-street store to offer garments made in this fabric, with shops like H&M and ASOS offering gorgeous alternatives. For example, ASOS Design’s longline high-waisted short with linen in black have a similar flattering shape and length to M&S but they’re currently on sale for £19.50 from £26. For something a bit more casual, these pull on shorts in linen are £18 from ASOS and are perfect for holidays.

Shoppers are also loving H&M’s pull-on linen shorts that come in natural-white, black and green and have a comfortable elasticated waistband, costing £18.99.

If your heart is set on the Marks & Spencer shorts, however, get them online here for £29.50.
