Iconic virtual band Gorillaz have unveiled their new track ‘The God of Lying‘, featuring British punk-rock tastemakers IDLES. This release stands as the third single from their forthcoming album The Mountain, set for launch on March 20, 2026 via the newly established KONG label.
Furthermore, the collaboration brings together the distinct voices of Gorillaz’s Damon Albarn and IDLES’ Joe Talbot, while injecting global textures into the production. ‘The God of Lying‘ blends bansuri and live percussion – played by Ajay Prasanna and Viraj Acharya – with fierce lyricism and layered political commentary. Moreover, the recording sessions spanned studios in London, Devon, and Mumbai, showcasing Gorillaz’s global creative reach.
Meanwhile, Albarn’s alter-ego 2-D adds weight to the track: “Can I tell you a secret? Doubt is very tiring but questioning things is really good for you.” His words reinforce the song’s thematic focus—a restless, challenging world where truth demands sound and fury.
Ahead of this release, Gorillaz offered glimpses with ‘The Happy Dictator’ (feat. Sparks) and ‘The Manifesto‘ (feat. Trueno and the late Proof). With The Mountain boasting collaborators like Yasiin Bey, Johnny Marr, Anoushka Shankar, and many more, this new single adds a bold chapter to the band’s ever-evolving journey.
