For decades, Robyn has been regarded as one of the elite vocal stars of the dance music scene. As she prepares her new album, she looks back on her past for her latest single.
In 2002, Robyn delivered one of her most iconic hits, Blow My Mind. Featured on her Don’t Stop The Music album, it featured her powerful lyrics, unique energy, and insatiable melody. Fast forward 24 years, and the Swedish singer is preparing her latest album, Sexistential, and has decided to re-imagine the single with fresh energy and new lyrics. The new album is set to release at the end of the month, on March 27th, but the remake of Blow My Mind is the latest single shared from the project. The new version is dedicated to her son, and she explained the inspiration in her press release: “Listening back to the original I thought, ‘I think it’s one of the best songs I ever recorded, and I’m just gonna do it again.’ I rewrote the lyrics and I love this version’s rawness. It’s not cute, because it’s not cute with children. They’re cute, but the experience isn’t. It’s very punk.”
Despite her renown as a dance vocalist, Robyn is not afraid to step outside of the lane and mix genres and energy in her tracks. The updated version of Blow My Mind maintains plenty of the energy of the original, but the lyrics and moment speak to an artist who has aged in the 24 years since the original. While discussing the track on social media, she shares her excitement to re-record the iconic track and reveals how this new update focuses on her ‘son’s tiny soft hands with nails sharp as knifes.’ Like all of her projects, Robyn manages to project passion and power into this new version of Blow My Mind. Listen to the new single below and get ready for her global Sexistential World Tour taking off later this year.
