deadmau5 has officially adopted one of the 27 rescue cats he helped save last month. Crucially, June is National Adopt a Cat Month, and the Canadian producer is marking the occasion by welcoming one of those rescued felines permanently into his own home.
The new addition becomes the fourth feline companion for Joel Zimmerman. Notably, the longtime cat lover already shares his life with three rescue cats. Now, in honour of Adopt a Cat Month, deadmau5 has decided to provide one of the rescued kittens with a permanent home of its own.
As a result, the adoption closes the loop on a story that gripped the dance community last month. deadmau5 first stepped in after the Humane Society of Oakville, Milton & Halton issued an urgent appeal — the shelter had rescued 27 cats and kittens from a single household and needed help covering medical treatment, vaccinations, spaying and neutering, microchipping and ongoing care.
Equally important, Zimmerman‘s response was immediate. The Canadian producer replied with a simple message: “I got you,” before donating $30,000 to cover the rescue effort. Furthermore, he then enlisted his fans to help name the cats through his Patreon community, using his platform to amplify the shelter’s work.
Meanwhile, the cat connection runs deep. deadmau5‘s late cat Meowingtons famously inspired the producer’s Meowingtons album era and even served as the basis for the rhythm-based game Meowingtons Simulator. Indeed, his love for felines has been one of the defining personal threads across his two-decade career.
Notably, the shelter has publicly praised Zimmerman for both his financial support and the awareness he brought to animal welfare efforts. Officials noted that his contribution helped shine a spotlight on the work rescue organisations perform every day.
Still, the bigger story is the snowball effect. With one rescue cat now permanently part of the mau5 family — and 26 others receiving the care they needed thanks to his donation — deadmau5 has turned a one-off act of generosity into one of the most meaningful headlines outside the booth this year.
