Steve Angello has just sent the global Swedish House Mafia community into overdrive. The Swedish DJ posted a story on Instagram teasing what looks like a brand-new SHM ID, with the caption “Starting the summer with this” and the track title visibly reading “SHM x Lykke Ibithaaa” on the file name.

Whatever this is, there is a very strong chance fans will be hearing it when the Swedish trio kick off their highly-anticipated Ushuaïa Ibiza residency on Saturday 28th June. The Swedish star and his bandmates Sebastian Ingrosso and Axwell have been openly hinting at a packed new season of unreleased material, and the timing of the tease lands less than 48 hours before the very first night of the residency.

What is the Swedish House Mafia x Lykke Li ‘Ibithaaa’ ID?

The file name itself is the only public clue so far, but the strongest read is that this is either an original collaboration between the Swedish trio and the Swedish singer-songwriter Lykke Li, or a remix of one of her latest album cuts. The Swedish singer’s most recent album, ‘The Afterparty’, lands as the most-recent body of work to draw from, and tracks like ‘Happiness Is So Sad’ sit as the strongest stylistic candidates for a euphoric, Ibiza-coded SHM rework.

The mood-setting also matters. The “Ibithaaa” suffix on the file name is being widely interpreted as a deliberate nod to Ibiza, which would tie the record directly into the upcoming Ushuaïa residency rollout. The Swedish star has a history of playing the most important new SHM records on the island first, with Hï Ibiza and Ushuaïa serving as the trio’s primary test ground for almost every major recent ID.

The Swedish trio’s history with the Swedish singer-songwriter also runs deeper than fans might initially realise. The Swedish singer’s catalogue has been part of the wider Swedish electronic music conversation for years, and a direct collaboration with the Swedish trio would land as one of the most natural Scandinavian creative crossovers in dance music. It would also follow the recent global momentum around her name, which has spiked dramatically following the Drake interpolation of ‘I Follow Rivers’ that gave the Swedish star her first-ever Billboard Hot 100 #1 as a credited songwriter.

Steve Angello tease also lands inside a particularly busy week for SHM, with Axwell’s brand-new Bonn collaboration ‘Whatever Turns You On’ having just dropped via Axtone Records earlier this week, and the trio’s historic homecoming show at Ullevi Gothenburg on 29th August already locked in.
