The Raiders are making major leadership changes in their organization.
The team fired head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler in the early hours of Wednesday morning, the team announced.
“After much thought about what the Raiders need to move forward, I have decided to part ways with Josh and Dave. I want to thank them both for their hard work and wish them and their families nothing but the best,” owner Mark Davis said in a statement.
According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, linebacker coach and ex-Giant Antonio Pierce will become the team’s interim head coach
Assistant GM Champ Kelly will take over Ziegler’s role, also in an interim capacity, per the Raiders.
McDaniels, who joined the team last year, went 6-11 in 2022 and started this season 3-5 after losing on “Monday Night Football” to the Lions in Week 8.
Ziegler also joined the Raiders in 2022 when he replaced Mike Mayock.
The duo finished their Las Vegas tenures without a playoff appearance while facing mounting frustration from star wide receiver Davante Adams, who was seen slamming his helmet during Monday’s loss in Detroit.
“I don’t know what to say at this moment,” Adams said after the loss Monday night, according to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer. “I truly don’t.
“I wish I had the words to say something that’s not gonna get blown up in the media or taken out of context.”
McDaniels, who inked a six-year deal last year, has four full years left on his deal that the Raiders still have to pay out, Schefter reported.
He is 20-33 in his career as a head coach after stints with the Broncos (2009-10) and the Raiders.
Pierce is set to make his head coaching debut on Sunday against the Giants, a team he spent five years with, winning Super Bowl XLII.
