The Mets have interviewed Yankees bench coach Carlos Mendoza for their managerial position, The Post has learned.
Mendoza, 43, has coached in the Yankees organization since 2009, including the last four as Aaron Boone’s bench coach.
The Mets job became open when Buck Showalter was dismissed at the conclusion of a disappointing 2023 season and upon David Stearns taking over as president of baseball operations.
Stearns’ longtime Brewers manager Craig Counsell has been viewed as the favorite for the Mets. But he can stay in Milwaukee, and is also considered a very strong candidate in Cleveland and perhaps with Houston as well.
Mendoza also has interviewed for the Cleveland opening to replace Tito Francona.
He has interviewed for several other managerial openings, including the Red Sox and Tigers after the 2020 season and the White Sox after last season.
