The times may change, but mean girls will always stay the same.
A quasi-sequel to the hit 2004 chick flick has been released — in the form of a Walmart ad!
“Mean Girls” stars Lindsay Lohan (who played Cady Heron), Amanda Seyfried (Karen Smith), Lacey Chabert (Gretchen Wieners), Daniel Franzese (Damian Leigh) and Rajiv Surendra (Kevin Gnapoor) have reunited for the commercial introducing deals for Black Friday.
The actors have stepped back into their respective roles from the film, however, Ms. Regina George herself, Rachel McAdams, is nowhere to be found.
In the two-minute clip, there is a new generation of Plastics roaming the halls of North Shore High School and the OG characters are now the parents to a new group of kids.
“Some things never change. On Wednesdays we wear pink, but now we shop Walmart Black Friday deals,” Lohan-as-Cady says as Gretchen drives up in her sports car stuffed to the brim with shopping bags.
The mini second installment also features Gretchen being a stage mom while Kevin tries to parent his own young kids.
Cady is now North Shore’s guidance counselor and she struggles to deal with Gen Z’s version of cliques.
Another scene references the original movie’s iconic “Jingle Bell Rock” performance as well as many spots showcasing the color pink.
One amazing cameo is the queen of rap, Missy Elliot! The “Gossip Folks” crooner makes an appearance as a gym teacher, showing the students the hottest Walmart shopping deals. Her famous hit “Pass That Dutch” was featured in the first film.
Page Six divulged on Wednesday — the day when only pink is allowed — why the “Notebook” star opted not to return for the ad.
“Rachel McAdams didn’t want to do it,” an insider said. “They were all offered it. But the three of them loved being together for their reunion.”
The insider went on: “They had a great time talking about being moms, and it was definitely a loss not having Rachel there.”
Lohan, Chabert and Franzese revealed to People how much of a rush it was to be back together again.
“It was so nice being back together after all these years. It was great catching up with everyone,” the “Parent Trap” alum gushed on Wednesday.
The “Party of Five” alum chimed in: “It was wonderful to spend the day with Amanda and Lindsay and it was so much fun getting to reminisce and be together again.”
“I know we are excited for everyone to see what we’ve all been up to,” Franzese added. “Walmart made it so special by allowing us to have fun together while getting to do a new project that spreads excitement. There’s something here for everyone (except for Gretchen Wieners).”
