Great British Bake Off star Cristy Sharp has addressed the moment she struggled with a challenge that left her tearful.

This week the bakers tackled Botanical Week hoping to win the title of Star Baker with their floral fare and survive another week in the tent.

This week’s episode (October 31) saw Cristy give in to the heat of the kitchen after being crowned Star Baker last week.

The contestant’s show stopper started to go wrong, including the collapse of one of her cakes, leading her to take a temporary exit out of the tent to gather her composure. The emotional baker didn’t give up and tried to complete her creation when she returned to the kitchen.

While the result was a far cry from her previous efforts with judge Paul Hollywood admitting it was “a bit of a mess”, he was quick to add that the taste was still good as he praised her tenacity for carrying on.

Cristy, “thanked God it’s over” after the baker took to Instagram on Wednesday, where she has almost 5000 followers, to address the drama.

Alongside the picture of her creation, she wrote: “Not my finest showstopper but in hindsight, it’s just a cake. Thank you for all the lovely kind messages.”

Fans were quick to share their support as one wrote: “To have produced that stunning showstopper after the issues with the first de-mould, shows how talented and determined a baker you are Cristy. Just amazing. You should be so proud.”

Another said: “I really felt for you when the first one collapsed, but you pulled it out of the bag.”

While a third commented: “I think it was a brilliant recovery but, hey, I’ve done worse and feel rubbish about it and upset thinking well this wouldn’t go well on TV it’s atrocious but I’m impressed so well done.”

Cristy has been emerging as the dark horse with fans praising her work the past couple weeks.

Bake Off presenter Alison Hammond announced Dana Conway would leave the competition: “It has been one of the hardest decisions of the competition so far.”

Bake off continues next Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
