Derek Jeter’s first year with Fox’s MLB coverage ended as the World Series concluded on Wednesday night, and his teammates wanted to know if he’d be returning with them for another season.
His answer?
Wait and see.
Jeter, who joined the crew this summer starting with the Cardinals-Cubs series in London, addressed what his first year as a TV pundit was like.
“I didn’t expect to have this much fun,” Jeter said when prompted by host Kevin Burkhardt to reflect on the year. “I didn’t know what I was getting myself into, but I had so much fun here.
“We’re all fans of the spot, we’re fans of the game. And to get an opportunity to sit here and shine a light on the young players that are coming up, it’s been awesome and I’m looking forward to next year.”
But when pressed by former Yankees teammate Alex Rodriguez if he’d be joining the Fox crew next year, Jeter was coy and didn’t give a definitive answer.
“I don’t know yet,” Jeter responded. “I don’t know yet, we’ll see.”
Jeter and wife Hannah welcomed their fourth child this year, a son named Kaius Green. The 49-year-old resigned as Marlins CEO before the 2022 season.
On Super Bowl Sunday, The Post first reported Jeter would be joining Fox.
In trying to keep the former Yankees captain on the broadcast, David Ortiz had a gift for Jeter.
“I only give this to my dawg,” the Hall of Fame designated hitter said before presenting Jeter with a shirt that literally said “My Dawg” with a picture of the former Red Sox star celebrating a home run on it.
“It took me a long time to get this,” Jeter said.
It was one of a number of things Jeter was gifted or prompted to wear this season.
In London, Jeter was gifted a crown and then was trolled by Ortiz as he was gifted a No. 2 Red Sox jersey on live TV.
Before Game 5 of the ALCS, the crew all donned cowboy hats, though Jeter initially refused.
“New Yorkers don’t wear these. New Yorkers don’t do this,” he said.
However, two days later, Jeter said it was all good fun, and he posted a picture of himself on X wearing the hat.
Only time will tell if he’ll get more gifts next season.
