Cris Collinsworth has another controversial opinion.

The longtime NBC color commentator and former NFL receiver says there’s an obvious reason as to why backup quarterbacks appear, in his mind, out of shape.

He discussed this during Saturday night’s NFL contest on Peacock featuring the Buffalo Bills and the Los Angeles Chargers, who started Easton Stick at QB with injured starter Justin Herbert out for the season.

When play-by-play man Mike Tirico pointed out that Chargers offensive coordinator Kellen Moore “actually had Easton Stick for a week of practice,” Collinsworth added, “When you’re the backup quarterback, you can go months without even taking a single play in practice.”

Tirico said that it “sounds insane to fans,” adding, “How do you not give your backup snaps?”

Collinsworth then replied, “That’s the reason a lot of backup quarterbacks are fat. They don’t do anything.”

Tirico and Collinwsworth laughed, but the esteemed play-by-play announcer wanted the heat off of him.

“C-o-l-l-i-n-s, send ’em to Cris,” said Tirico, before adding, “I love the backup quarterback.”

Many on social media laughed along with Collinsworth but some took exception to his claim.

One commenter took exception with Collinsworth’s entire ability to announce a game, claiming he hadn’t gotten any better.

Another pointed out that he was fat shaming, and asked Peacock directly if they were going to act.

Stick, listed at 6-foot-1, 224 pounds, went 23-for-33 with 215 yards and a rushing touchdown in the Chargers’ 24-22 loss to the Bills.

The 28-year-old was a fifth-round pick by the Chargers in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Herbert fractured his right index finger earlier this month and required season-ending surgery.
