The updated policy pulls no punches. Fully or majority AI-generated music is not permitted on the platform and will be withheld at ingestion, with rightsholders notified directly. AI-assisted tracks that are majority human-created remain welcome, but they will be tagged at the point of ingestion, giving Beatport’s curators full transparency about what they are featuring.
The stance reflects the platform’s own community data. In a recent Beatport user survey, 60% of DJs said they would not play AI-generated tracks in their sets. Among that group, 77% cited a strict preference for supporting human creators. Only 8% of users are currently open to playing AI music, while 13% would consider it if artists and labels are fairly compensated.
“Beatport exists to serve DJs and empower artists and labels. This means partnering with our community and providing confidence in what our platform offers,” said Beatport CEO Matt Gralen. “While new production techniques have driven electronic music forward since the beginning, there is a difference between a tool that assists human creation and a system that replaces it entirely. Beatport is built on the former.”
Beatdapp’s AI detection technology now runs alongside its existing streaming fraud detection tools on the platform. “The music industry has always embraced new technology,” said Beatdapp Co-Founder and Co-CEO Andrew Batey. “What’s needed now is the infrastructure to bring transparency to the age of generative AI. By combining AI Music Detection with our existing fraud detection capabilities, we’re helping Beatport strengthen the integrity of its platform while protecting human creativity.”
The Association for Electronic Music has also weighed in supportively. “Beatport’s approach aligns with AFEM’s AI Principles by keeping human creativity at the centre while recognising that not all uses of AI are the same,” said Jay Ahern, Chief Strategy Officer at AFEM. “Human intent and creative control must sit alongside consent, licensing, transparency, attribution and remuneration.”
