BMW has introduced Dolby Atmos support in its latest 7 Series models, marking the German car giant’s first step into immersive in-car audio. The new 7 Series is the first BMW model to support Dolby Atmos, with the upcoming iX3 Long Wheelbase expected to follow.
The feature is available through an upgraded Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System, which includes up to 36 speakers and delivers a total output of 1965 watts. A standard system is also available, offering up to 18 speakers and 655 watts of power. The Dolby Atmos setup adds 3D audio channels in the roof, along with additional speakers in the front and rear headrests.
The system also includes a 4D audio mode, which uses seat-mounted exciters to enhance bass by adding physical vibration. BMW has also focused on improving in-cabin acoustics through acoustic glazing, improved door sealing, and using noise-reducing tyres with internal foam absorbers to minimise external sound.
The 7 Series can also be equipped with an optional 31.3-inch 8K Theatre Screen, designed for rear-seat entertainment. The system automatically adjusts lighting and window blinds to create a more immersive viewing environment.
