The audiobook of Britney Spears‘ tell-all memoir The Woman in Me was read by actress Michelle Williams, but she wasn’t the only one who auditioned for the role, according to a new Saturday Night Live sketch.
During the Timothée Chalamet-hosted episode on Nov. 11, SNL‘s Chloe Fineman reprised her role as the 41-year-old pop superstar to share hilarious clips of numerous other celebrities who tried out for the role of narrating her life story.
“I’m beyond touched that my book The Woman in Me hit number one on the New York Times bestseller list, to say the least,” Fineman’s Spears begins the skit. “My audiobook is read by the amazing Michelle Williams, but she wasn’t the only one who wanted to read it. Here’s a peak at some of the other actors who auditioned to read The Woman in Me.”
From there, more than a dozen other celebs step into the audition room to read choice lines from the book, including Ice Spice (played by Punkie Johnson), The B-52s‘ Fred Schneider (Bowen Yang), Martin Scorsese (Chalamet), Ego Nwodim (Jada Pinkett Smith), Neil deGrasse Tyson (Kenan Thompson), Steve-O (Mikey Day) and Natasha Lyonne (Fineman).
“My little sister was a total b—-,” Yang’s Schneider sings in class B-52s style, referencing Spears’ sister, Jamie Lynn.
Nwodim’s Pinkett Smith even sneaks in to plug her own memoir, Worthy. “That night was chaotic. I couldn’t believe that Will, my husband, slapped Chris Rock,” she says before being interrupted for reading from the wrong book. “Am I? Tupac has alopecia,” Nwodim’s Pinkett Smith quickly adds, holding up a copy of her new memoir.
Spears’ The Woman in Me sold 1.1 copies in its first week of release, the Associated Press reports. The sales figures cover pre-orders, print sales, 3-books and audiobook versions of the book that was released on Oct. 24. The memoir chronicles Spears’ rise to fame, her relationship with fellow child star Justin Timberlake, and her life under a highly restrictive 13-year conservancy.
“Thank you to all the fans who made #TheWomanInMe a #1 @nytimes bestseller,” the pop star tweeted along with a mind-blown emoji. “it means the world to me !!! Love you all [three kiss emoji] !!!”
