Calibre has released his new album ‘Tricklemore Sea’, out now on vinyl and digital via Signature Recordings. Notably, the project sits as one of the producer’s most introspective and exploratory full-lengths to date.
The record moves further beyond the boundaries of drum and bass. Meanwhile, ambient, shoegaze, blues, folk and electronic elements all sit inside the same arrangement. The low-end sensibility that has shaped his work for three decades anchors the whole thing. Calibre wrote, produced and performed the entire record himself. Crucially, his own vocals sit at the front of the mix throughout. Furthermore, the tone reads as more exposed and vulnerable than 2025’s ‘they want you’.
The album took shape over several years rather than a single sprint. Equally, the material draws from work begun after ‘Planet Hearth’. Piano-led pieces sit alongside field recordings, improvisations and bass-driven cuts.
Standout moments span the runtime. Moreover, ‘Little Blend’ balances quiet melancholia with a sense of hope. ‘Free One’ reflects on the pressures of modern life, while the title track considers human existence within a wider universe. Berlin runs through several arrangements. Still, ‘Deflower’ and ‘Pigeon Luncheon’ both draw on recordings made in the German capital at the end of lockdown. Older pieces ‘Living In Your Head’ and ‘Hyndsight’ have been reworked into the new sequence.
Reggae influences surface on ‘Able Son Dub’. In short, ‘Bit Broken’ appears in a downtempo form alongside its drum and bass counterpart from ‘They Want You’. ‘United Pull’ and ‘Mizzle Mine’ lean into abstraction. “Some people are students and practice the art form. Others perfect it and become masters of their craft. To me Calibre unquestionably falls into the latter,” Goldie shared. Mala added that “Calibre has not only inspired me but a whole generation of music lovers.”
Finally, Calibre’s ‘Tricklemore Sea’ is out now on vinyl and digital via Signature Recordings.
