Carol Vorderman was praised by her fans after she shared a video of herself giving blood from a hospital bed on Friday evening. The 62-year-old took to Instagram to share the clip with her 473,000 followers and encouraged them to also donate blood to the NHS.

In the short clip, the television star can be seen sitting on a hospital bed with a needle sticking out of her arm. There was a tube running from the needle to a bag where her blood was collected to be stored and then donated.

She captioned it: “Donated blood at lunchtime over in our wonderful Blood Donor Centre @givebloodnhs at Southmead Hospital (Bristol). Thank you everyone AGAIN. You’re blood-y marvellous…. Had to keep doing my buttock clenching and pelvic floors to get the blood flow up….lols..” (sic)

The former Countdown star went on to encourage others to be selfless and also donate blood to the NHS. She continued: “Anyway, if you feel able to get yourself booked up on the app or online. It’s so easy and you get free chocolate biscuits after! Whole thing inc sitting around after for a bit takes an hour tops. Loved it.” (sic)

Carol’s fans rushed to the comment section to thank her for helping to save lives and helping out those who are in need. One person said: “THANK YOU CAROL. Thanks to all of you who give blood. Me and so many survive because of you and people like you.” (sic)

Another fan commented: “Well done Carol! Top girl! I used to give blood too! I must start doing it again.”

A third added: “You are doing something wonderful and very meaningful and very helpful. Hope you didn’t have any trouble walking after you were done. Take care and have a lovely day and weekend too.”

Meanwhile, a fourth said: “Adore the integrity and intelligence of Carol. I know I’m not supposed to say this, but she scrubs up bloody well, too!”

The official NHS Blood Donation Instagram account commented: “Thank you so much for taking the time out to make another life-saving donation and for being the #GivingType, Carol.

“We really appreciate your incredible support. Which well deserved chocolate biscuit did you choose this time?”
