Today, the global dance music community celebrates the 57th birthday of Tiësto, the Dutch DJ and producer whose influence helped shape electronic music culture for decades. Born Tijs Michiel Verwest on 17 January 1969 in Breda, Netherlands, Tiësto began building his name in the mid-1990s and later co-founded Black Hole Recordings, a label that became deeply tied to the rise of trance worldwide.

To honour the moment properly, we curated a dedicated playlist spanning the mid-’90s through 2008, focusing on the releases that defined Tiësto’s trance era before his full shift into EDM. Alongside the obvious essentials, the selection also digs into deeper cuts and side projects that shaped his wider universe, including Allure, Tom Ace, and Kamaya Painters with Benno de Goeij. Additionally, we included key moments from Gouryella with Ferry Corsten, plus lesser-known aliases such as Stray Dog, Loop Control, and Control Freak. For longtime fans, the inclusion of Alibi with Armin van Buuren adds another layer to the time capsule.

At the same time, Tiësto’s recent moves have sparked fresh excitement. After closing Club Life, the long-running radio show that became a weekly reference point for millions, he launched Prismatic, a new show that reflects his modern trance-techno direction more clearly.

As Tiësto enters this next chapter, his impact remains undeniable. From early trance beginnings and foundational label work to global stages and continuing innovation, his journey reflects both the history and future of electronic dance music.
