Chris Russo seems to think Travis Kelce’s priorities were in the wrong place.
During his weekly appearance on “First Take” on Wednesday, “Mad Dog” closed out the show with plenty of things he was perturbed with — including celebrating Thanksgiving — and listed Kelce’s recent trip to Argentina to see Taylor Swift perform an Eras Tour concert among his latest grievances.
Russo likened Kelce’s decision to that of Odell Beckham Jr. and his Giants teammates in 2017 when they took a trip down Miami and took an infamous photo on a boat before getting crushed by Aaron Rodgers and the Packers in the first round of the playoffs.
While the stakes weren’t as high in Week 11, the Chiefs did take on the Eagles on “Monday Night Football” in a highly anticipated Super Bowl rematch, with Philadelphia coming away with a 21-17 win.
Kelce did have seven catches for 44 yards and a touchdown in the loss, but Russo said the star tight end should not have taken the trip to South America during his bye week because of some costly mistakes he made in the game.
“How about Travis Kelce? You’re going to Argentina — during your bye week!” Russo ranted. “It’s 5,600 miles away from Kansas City. And then he goes out there on Monday night, he drops a huge pass on fourth-and-2, he commits a hold and he fumbles! You’re bouncing around the world with Taylor Swift, I mean my god, you’re a football player. You should be at workouts and practicing.
“Swift in February, fine. Not in November!”
When Kimberley A. Martin told Russo that the Swifties might be now coming for him, he said: “Let them come after me!”
Martin and host Molly Qerim pushed back on Russo, saying Kelce was trying to balance a new relationship.
It’s not the first time Russo has spoke out against the two’s highly publicized relationship.
During a September episode of “First Take,” the sports host could not believe Swift was sitting with Kelce’s family in a suite early in the relationship.
“And who takes their girlfriend two minutes into a relationship to visit mommy and daddy? Nobody does that!” Russo exclaimed “Then we have to show them walking out. And that, all of a sudden she’s a big Kansas City Chiefs fan? She’s never heard of Lenny Dawson! Oh my God!”
But Thursday’s “What are You Mad About?” segment also veered into other topics, including when Russo put his vitriol toward celebrating Thanksgiving with his family instead of being able to just watch football on the couch by himself.
“I hate, can’t stand it. It’s a disaster. And Christmas is coming, which is worse” Russo said. “I hate Thanksgiving. I can’t stand it!”
If Kelce or the Chiefs struggle at all the rest of the way, they’re likely going to have to hear it from Russo.
Who knows what would happen if they were all at the same Thanksgiving table.
