Coronation Street and Brookside star Claire Sweeney is among the brave celebrities taking part in Dancing On Ice next year. Rehearsals for the ITV show are well underway, but Claire has revealed that her first stint on the ice ended in a mortifying wardrobe malfunction.

The 52-year-old explained that she met Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean at an ice rink, but her problems began when she went “flying”.

Claire divulged to Prima: “The first time I went on the ice, Torvill and Dean were standing in the middle of this huge rink and there were cameras everywhere. I’d got a blow-dry and was wearing bright blue because I thought it would stand out, but as I got on the ice, I went flying, landed on my wrist and hurt it.

“I thought, ‘If I can carry on with everyone looking at me, that will be a big accomplishment’, so I got back up and kept skating for half an hour and was so proud of myself. Then I glanced in the mirror in the dressing room and saw that my leggings had ripped and my bum had been hanging out the whole time!”

Claire’s bad luck reportedly didn’t end there as one month later she was issued an “urgent warning” about the ice rink where she trains.

In November, The Sun reported that Claire and boxer Ricky Hatton had been advised to seek medical attention after the rink was shut down due to fears of a carbon monoxide leak. A “number of people” are said to have fallen ill after visiting the rink.

A gas emergency service later told the publication that they had checked out the possible leak. A spokesperson said: “We were able to establish that the local gas network is sound and did not contribute to what has happened. The matter is now being looked into by environmental health teams.”

Claire will be partnered with Colin Grafton, who reached last year’s final with The Vivienne.

The other celebrities taking part include S Club 7’s Hannah Spearritt, Emmerdale actress Roxy Shahidi, Coronation Street actor Ryan Thomas and Love Islander Amber Davies.

The January 2023 issue of Prima is now on sale.
