A Cubs employee was hospitalized Tuesday after they came in contact with a “foreign substance” in the mail.
The incident, involving a member of the Cubs’ security team, occurred at an office that sits directly west of Wrigley Field, according to ABC 7 in Chicago.
The substance arrived via the mail and prompted police to respond to a Level 1 Hazmat call.
The bomb unit was also on the scene, according to the outlet.
The employee was transported by ambulance to Illinois Masonic Hospital and was later released, according to the Cubs.
“This afternoon, a member of our security team detected a foreign substance that was contained in a small package delivered to our offices at 1101 West Waveland,” the team said in a statement.
“We immediately notified authorities which prompted a Chicago Fire Department hazmat response. The employee noticed an allergic reaction and was transported to the hospital as a precaution and has since been released.
“At this time, we have not been asked to leave the building or shelter in place while the safety assessment and investigation is underway.”
The situation started to develop around 2:45 p.m. Central Standard Time when police and fire crews responded to an incident in the mail handling area at the Cubs’ corporate office building, according to CBS News Chicago.
Authorities have not said or determined what the substance was.
