DK Metcalf showed up in primetime and flat-out embarrassed one of the league’s best defenses on “Thursday Night Football.”
One bettor was expecting Metcalf’s destruction of the Cowboys secondary — which he torched for three touchdowns on 134 receiving yards — a feat that was only accomplished one other time this season, by DJ Moore on “Monday Night Football.”
The wager was on the stud Seahawks receiver to score three touchdowns (140/1 on FanDuel Sportsbook), where a $100 bet won $14,000.
Metcalf started off the scoring by roasting Cowboys corner DaRon Bland for an early 73-yard touchdown.
He even showed off some sign language he learned in the offseason in order to avoid getting penalized for trash-talking.
But this bet was nearly killed when rookie receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba came down with an incredible 30-yard touchdown with Bland draped all over him in the final moments of the second quarter.
After further review, the play was called an incomplete pass, but Bland, who was again burnt badly on the play, interfered with the Smith-Njigba putting the ball at the one-yard line.
On the very next play, Metcalf efficiently used his 6-foot-4 235-pound frame to body Bland out of the way and catch a slant route for a touchdown.
Betting on the NFL?
Metcalf’s third touchdown was an easy cross in the back center of the end zone, again roasting Bland, who gave up five touchdowns in coverage on Thursday.
Bland’s record for defensive touchdowns scored might be a bit flukey and represents his hit-or-miss attitude when in coverage.
Look for teams to continue to use Bland’s body against him, as the 6-foot, 196-pound cornerback looked overmatched against the physical specimen Metcalf.
Bland did bring down another interception, his league-leading eighth when he picked off quarterback Geno Smith in the second half.
