The Duchess of Edinburgh has stepped out for a royal engagement in Leeds today – appearing to channel her inner Princess of Wales with her outfit of choice.

The 59-year-old was all smiles as she watched the training ahead of the Community Sport and Recreation Awards on International Women’s Day at Headingley Stadium. Prince Edward aslo appeared alongside his wife.

For ther joint visit, Duchess Sophie donned a gorgeous £1,380 Max Mara navy suit. The royal looked to be taking fashion tips from the Princess of Wales, who is known for her love of a power suit.

To ensure she is keeping warm, Sophie paired the look with a Frame cream and black stripe-print cashmere jumper – which she also sported earlier this month.

The royal tied the look together with a pair of Saint Laurent 95 ankle books in black leather and the Sophie Habsburg Luisa bag in beige stripes.

For accessories, Sophie wore the Cassandra goad the golden thread quote pendant. Keeping her make-up neutral, Sophie also wore her blonde locks natural.

The Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh are often branded two of the most-popular royals, although one expert has said that the couple have a “lack of fanfare”.

Speaking of the couple, royal author Gareth Russell recently told GB News: “Although they don’t get the media coverage that a lot of the more famous royals do, if you look at public opinion and public approval for the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, it’s consistently high and only getting higher.

“So in that sense, even though they don’t get a huge amount of media attention, they certainly get an immense amount of public goodwill for their work.”

Sophie and Edward’s only daughter, Lady Louise Windsor, also appears to be following in her mother’s footsteps and has recently got attention on the fashion front.

The 20-year-old, who was often deemed as the late Queen’s favourite grandchild, has deemed an upcoming “fashion royal icon”.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, style expert Danielle Rogers-Clark said: “Lady Louise has the potential to be a Royal Fashion icon, it is all about finding her confidence and own sense of style, although in her position I would definitely be raiding Sophie’s wardrobe too!
