Eamonn Holmes took to Instagram on Sunday afternoon to share an update days after he was forced off-air during his GB News breakfast show. The Irish broadcaster, 64, posted a photograph of himself looking frail as he leant against a door frame.
Despite his ill health, Eamonn smiled while wearing a navy jumper with white trousers and blue trainers.
In the caption, the presenter told his 802,000 followers: “Hard to stand up but next my aim is to walk. Off to a birthday party today. What about you?”
His followers quickly flooded the comments section with messages of encouragement. One said: “You’re doing well Eamonn, keep it up.”
Another wrote: “Looking extremely handsome as usual. Take care of yourself and have a great party.”
And a third motivated: “Come on Eamonn. We’re all behind you, literally, pushing you.”
On Tuesday, Eamonn sparked concern when he suddenly disappeared from his GB News show halfway through an interview with Under-Secretary of State for Mental Health Maria Caulfield.
Eamonn departed the studio with no explanation to viewers, leaving Isabel Webster, 41, to present the remaining 90 minutes alone.
A spokesperson for GB News later explained Eamonn’s exit, saying in a statement: “Eamonn had to finish a little earlier today as he was feeling unwell. He hopes to be back tomorrow.”
Eamonn was back at the helm of the show on Wednesday and discussed his reliance on carers during a conversation with a care support worker.
He said: “I just want to say what you do. I have been basically disabled for a year and a half or so and I have to have a carer to do the smallest simplest things and it’s humiliating and humbling but thank goodness that carers are available.”
Last week, newly single Eamonn told journalists that he is living on “borrowed time” following his shock separation from his wife of 14 years, Ruth Langsford.
When asked about their relationship at the TRIC Awards, Eamonn told Best Magazine: “It’s too early to say, but I hope we can still be friends.”
The TV personalities were married in 2010 and share one son, Jack, 22.
Confirming their separation in May this year, their representative said in a joint statement: “Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes have confirmed their marriage is over and they are in the process of divorcing.”
