After visiting with a doctor, Daniel Jones changed his tune on the neck injury that is jeopardizing his availability for the Giants.

Jones said it is not the same as the neck injury that sidelined him for the final six games of the 2021 season, which sounds like a relief considering that he initially drew a comparison between the pain from the two Sunday after exiting a 31-16 loss to the Dolphins with 12 minutes remaining.

“It’s different than what I’ve dealt with in the past, so just trying to heal up as quickly as possible and follow the advice from the trainers and doctors,” Jones said Tuesday morning on FanDuel TV’s “Up and Adams” program. “I’m feeling better.”

Jones, who saw a specialist Monday in New York, declined to share any specifics on either injury.

“It’s a neck injury, but different than the last one,” Jones said. “Hoping I can heal up quickly and doing everything I can to get out there as soon as possible.”

Giants head coach Brian Daboll expressed optimism that Jones would be able to play Sunday against the Bills.

Jones doubled down.

“That’s certainly the goal,” Jones said.

But Jones will need to be medically cleared for contact before he can take the field.

He wanted to return during the Giants’ season-ending six-game losing streak in 2021 but could not gain medical clearance.

Tyrod Taylor would be in line to start against the Bills should Jones not be cleared, and the Giants opened as the biggest underdogs of the season for the “Sunday Night Football” matchup.

“I think the biggest thing is dealing with contact,” Jones said. “Getting hit in a certain way exposes you. It’s not necessarily what would prevent me from throwing or doing anything I need to do, but taking a similar hit could affect it.”
