Tight end Darren Waller was adamant that the new hamstring injury that forced him out of last week’s overtime loss to the Jets would take weeks, not days, to heal.
Sure enough, Waller on Saturday was placed on injured reserve, meaning he will miss at least the next four games.
It is a significant loss for the Giants, even though Waller had yet to make the impact that was expected of him when the Giants sent a third-round pick to the Raiders to acquire his services.
Still, Waller leads the team with 36 catches for 384 yards.
He also has one touchdown.
Quarterback Tyrod Taylor was also knocked out of that game, with an injury to his rib cage, and he, too, was put on IR.
The Giants have Tommy DeVito and recent practice-squad addition Matt Barkley as backups to starter Daniel Jones.
The Giants now have two kickers on their roster, as they elevated Randy Bullock off their practice squad.
Bullock joins Cade York, who was signed Friday off the Titans practice squad.
Replacements were needed after Graham Gano landed on IR and will undergo surgery to his left knee. Either Bullock or York will kick Sunday against the Raiders.
In other moves for the Giants, LB Justin Hollins was elevated from the practice squad, and TE Lawrence Cager was signed to the roster from the practice squad.
