The Duchess of Sussex, born Rachel Meghan Markle, is celebrating her 43rd birthday today. Express.co.uk has taken a look inside Meghan’s latest venture as she marks her special day.
It’s been four years since she and her husband Prince Harry stepped down as senior members of the Royal Family to start a new life in California together. The pair now reside there with their young children, Lillibet, three, and Archie, five.
Meghan started off her career as an actress, with her most notable role being Rachel Zane in the legal drama Suits which premiered in June 2011. The Duchess quit acting in 2017 after portraying paralegal Rachel for seven seasons of the hit series.
She told the BBC at the time: “I don’t see it as giving anything up. I just see it as a change. It’s a new chapter. And also keep in mind I’ve been working on my show for seven years. So, we were very fortunate to have that sort of longevity on a series.”
When asked if she’d consider returning to acting, she told Variety in 2019: “No. I’m done. I guess never say never, but my intention is to absolutely not.”
So what is Meghan up to at the moment? The royal has reportedly completed filming a new cooking series for Netflix as part of her and Harry’s $100 million five-year deal with the streaming giant.
Sky News host Rita Panahi stated: “Meghan Markle has just wrapped up filming on a new cooking and home show for Netflix, a show which has yet to receive a formal title or air date, as part of the Sussexes $100m deal and was filmed at a property near their Montecito mansion in Los Angeles.
“It’s apparently going to focus on the joys of cooking, gardening, entertaining and friendship.”
The untitled show is thought to be produced in conjunction with Meghan’s new lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard.
Andrew Bloch, PR guru and founder of Andrew Bloch & Associates, told Fabulous: “All eyes will be on Meghan’s new show delivering big numbers for Netflix. They signed a $100 million (£77.7 million) deal with Harry and Meghan in 2020 and are looking for a return on their investment.
“No doubt Netflix will promote the show heavily, however, will be acutely aware of the fierce competition in the cooking and home space.
“This combined, with the fact that this is a new avenue for Meghan and comes off the back of Harry’s Spare backlash, will add to the pressure.”
Meghan established her lifestyle brand American Riviera Orchard in March 2024 via Instagram and it aims to offer a myriad of products, from jams to recipe books and tableware.
