John Summit has publicly called out Pete Tong over the handling of a remix of Everything But The Girl’s ‘Missing’, accusing the BBC Radio 1 legend of promising a collaboration before releasing a version of the track with someone else.
The original 1994 track became a defining club anthem through the Todd Terry remix, a record whose vocal has remained a festival weapon for over thirty years. That legacy is clearly still very much alive: a new house rework by Franky Rizardo and Pete Tong is officially due out on July 17, having already been heavily teased across festival sets this season.
It is that release which has prompted Summit to speak out. In a post on X, he accused Tong of making promises he did not keep. “Hey @petetong thanks for promising to release my missing remix with u (while doing nothing in terms of production) then jacking my remix to release with Franky Rizardo,” Summit wrote. “Real class act you are. To think I actually looked up to u too.”
WhatsApp messages reveal orchestral collaboration plans
To support the claim, Summit shared a WhatsApp conversation with Tong in which the two discussed producing an orchestral version of the track together. In the exchange, Tong asked Summit to send his session files and stems so they could record to tempo, noting that he had already recreated parts of the original and was working on the vocal with Julia and Mark Ralph. Summit agreed to send the session over and even discussed performing the orchestral version live at Tofte Manor with his own orchestra.
According to Summit, that collaboration never materialised on Tong’s end. “Also I ended up doing the whole orchestral version myself which I’m premiering this weekend,” he wrote in a follow-up. “Thanks for the zero help.” He also shared a snippet of the finished version alongside the statement.
The accusation adds another chapter to what has been a remarkable run of form for Summit. He recently turned heads with a remix of Avicii’s ‘Seek Bromance’ and is currently preparing for a major arena tour that promises to transform venues into raves inspired by the TV series Severance.
Pete Tong and Franky Rizardo have not publicly responded to the allegations at the time of writing.
