The dance music world is mourning. Lauren Bennett, the British singer whose voice powered LMFAO iconic ‘Party Rock Anthem‘, has died at the age of 37. Her former G.R.L. bandmates Emmalyn Estrada, Natasha Slayton and Paula van Oppen confirmed her passing in a joint statement, though a cause of death has not been shared.
Born on 24 June 1989 in Meopham, Bennett began performing at 18 and became a founding member of Paradiso Girls, the dance-pop group formed by Robin Antin of The Pussycat Dolls. Their 2009 debut ‘Patron Tequila’ with Lil Jon and Eve reached No. 3 on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs chart. But it was her breathy hook on the LMFAO anthem that made her a global voice. That single hit No. 1 in more than a dozen countries and placed her in Spotify’s billion-stream club.
She later joined another Antin project, G.R.L., touring internationally with the group before its 2014 hiatus following the death of bandmate Simone Battle. G.R.L. reformed the following year with van Oppen and continued to perform intermittently. Outside music, Bennett spoke openly about mental health advocacy after Battle’s death. In their statement, her G.R.L. bandmates wrote: “Our hearts are broken, and we cannot begin to express how much she meant to us. We will forever cherish the love, laughter and countless memories she gave us.”
Bennett is survived by her six-year-old daughter, Harlow.
