It’s been over 20 years since The Lord of the Rings film trilogy concluded and yet more and more JRR Tolkien content keeps getting announced.

Alongside the new trailer for The Rings of Power season 2 and 2026’s The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, there’s another Middle-earth movie set for release this year.

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is an official anime feature film following the adventures of Helm Hammerhead.

Voiced by Brian Cox, he’s the King of Rohan who erected Helm’s Deep, the fortress which featured prominently in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.

The upcoming film is set around 200 years before the events of the original film trilogy and follows the legendary monarch defending his kingdom against an army of Dunlendings.

Warner Bros has released first look images from the upcoming animated film promising fierce battles. Joining Cox as Helm Hammerhead in the voice cast is Miranda Otto reprising Éowyn, the shield maiden of Rohan from The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy.

The film studio has multiple new movies based on the fantasy world of Tolkien in the works.

The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim hits cinemas on December 13, 2024.
