Lykke Li has officially unveiled the long-teased new collaboration with The Magician. The Swedish singer-songwriter has just released a brand-new remix of her latest single ‘Lucky Again’, reimagined by the Belgian producer behind one of the most iconic dance records of the 2010s. The release also kicks off a brand-new weekly summer-long remix series for her latest album, ‘The Afterparty’.

The collaboration is a full-circle moment for both artists. More than a decade after the Belgian producer’s iconic remix of the Swedish singer-songwriter’s ‘I Follow Rivers’ became a global phenomenon and surpassed one billion streams, the two have now officially returned to the studio together, after first connecting on social earlier this month — as covered in our piece on The Magician reflecting on 15 years since the original remix.

Inside The Magician’s reimagining of ‘Lucky Again’

Originally one of the emotional standouts from ‘The Afterparty’, ‘Lucky Again’ explores the fragile hope of finding light after heartbreak. The Belgian producer’s rework elevates the track into an uplifting, late-night anthem, pairing the Swedish singer’s ethereal vocals with warm piano chords, shimmering synths and the euphoric melodic house production that has made him one of the genre’s most beloved tastemakers.

The remix arrives during a major chapter for the Swedish star. ‘The Afterparty’ has been widely celebrated for its raw songwriting and cinematic production. The Swedish singer’s catalogue has also enjoyed a fresh wave of mainstream attention, most recently via Drake‘s interpolation of ‘I Follow Rivers’ on his ‘Janice STFU’, which delivered her first-ever No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 as a credited songwriter.

The release also serves as the first instalment in an expansive remix campaign that reimagines standout tracks from ‘The Afterparty’ across the entire dance music spectrum. The Swedish singer has invited a stacked lineup of celebrated producers to interpret her songs throughout the summer.

The full remix rollout reads as: 26th June — ‘Lucky Again’ (The Magician Remix); 10th July — ‘Lucky Again’ (Horse Meat Disco Remix); 17th July — ‘Happy Now’ (Only Fire Remix); 31st July — ‘Lucky Again’ (Rebecca & Fiona Remix); 14th August — ‘Future Fear’ (Killen Remix); and 28th August — ‘Knife In The Heart’ (The Magician Remix). The Swedish singer has effectively curated a seasonal dance-music chapter inside her own album cycle, with the Belgian producer bookending the entire run.

Why this Lykke Li and The Magician reunion matters

For the Belgian producer, this remix continues an extraordinary career that has bridged indie and electronic music for more than a decade. Following his debut album ‘Voyage’, collaborations with Purple Disco Machine, A-Trak and Inner City, and headline performances at Coachella, Tomorrowland and Printworks London, as well as a five-year residency at Elsewhere Brooklyn, he remains one of dance music’s most influential tastemakers. The reunion with the Swedish singer is also the loudest expression yet of how rare and culturally enduring their original creative chemistry has proven to be.

The Belgian producer’s remix of ‘Lucky Again’ is available now on all major streaming platforms. Tune in below.
