Matthew Wolfenden has given fans an insight into his current living situation following his split from his wife Charley Webb. The former Emmerdale co-stars, who share three children together, confirmed they had split after five years of marriage on Instagram last week.
The 43-year-old, who played David Metcalfe on the ITV soap for 17 years, appeared on Sunday Brunch and confirmed he is currently living in a “little” flat in London.
During Sunday’s episode of the Channel 4 show (December 3), host Tim Lovejoy asked Matthew if he was interested in Christmas and if he had put up decorations yet.
The actor, who has been at the centre of a crushing storyline involving his ex on Emmerdale, confirmed: “Christmas, yeah I love Christmas.”
Presenter Tim then queried: “Have you got your decorations up as I know you’re busy at Christmas?”
“Well I have been busy”, Matthew told the show’s viewers without going into too much detail about his personal life.
“Yeah I got a little tree up in my little flat in London, it’s lovely yeah,” he added.
The show hosts replied: “It’s going to be tough for you to do Christmas shopping this year you’re going to be busy working”, but Matthew simply responded by saying he buys gifts online.
Last week, Emmerdale aired the heartbreaking exit of David Metcalfe, who has been part of the soap for almost two decades.
Since filming his last scenes, Matthew has swapped the small screen for the stage as he is currently starring as Buddy the Elf for the musical adaption of Elf the Musical at London’s Dominion Theatre.
The new role sees Matthew turn to a new path in life as it coincides with the end of his five-year marriage with soap star Charley.
Last week, he and Charley released a joint statement announcing their split after speculation about their marriage woes grew.
She wrote on Instagram: “It is with love and respect that Charley and I have decided to separate.
“We remain friends and our priority is the love for our children. For their sake, we would appreciate privacy at this time.”
Matthew is now reportedly enjoying dates with his Elf the Musical colleague Heather Scott Martin.
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV and ITVX.
