Spice Girl Mel B declared she’d “take a bullet” for Geri Halliwell, according to a new interview – and vowed that she and the other three girls would do anything to “protect” her. The 48-year-old is sympathetic to the stress she’s been under after her husband Christian Horner was at the centre of a scandal over an exchange of allegedly inappropriate texts to a staff member.
Though an investigation has cleared him of wrongdoing, reports have continued to circulate about the messages he may have sent behind the scenes. “That’s my friend, and I just want to protect her,” Mel revealed in an interview with The Mirror.
“Oh God, we are all so supportive of each other, we would literally take a bullet for each other… she knows that she has the four of us with her.” Mel went on to explain that the care and affection she felt for her former bandmates has been totally reciprocated, with Mel C offering her a place to stay when her first marriage fell through back in 2000.
She claimed that her ex was refusing to leave the marital home and that she felt trapped, but that her bandmates – part of one of the most famous girl groups in the world – were supportive throughout. “I think it was Mel who said to me: ‘Get your baby and come stay with me,’ and Emma had the house opposite, and I was just protected by my girls,” she reminisced.
It sounds as if Say You’ll Be There wasn’t just a song but a sentiment between the bandmates for life – and now she’d like to return the kindness when it comes to Geri’s recent turmoil. “Because I don’t really know the ins and outs, all I see is: ‘That’s my friend and I know what she’s going through is really tough.’ All you can do is be there – just like the girls have been there for me, all I can do is be there for Geri,” she mused.
She added that it was “horrible” to see her experience personal difficulties and that she wanted to protect her from emotional harm, “no matter what”.
Meanwhile, Christian has spoken out to thank Geri for her “phenomenal support” during a “trying” time.
In a statement, he told the world: “It’s obviously been a very trying period. I’m married and have three children.
“When that intrusion includes your children and the scrutiny that is placed on my marriage, I’m very fortunate that I have a beautiful family and a very supportive wife.”
He added that the situation had been “very challenging”, explaining: “When there’s children involved, when there’s families, parents involved, it’s not pretty.”
Christian consistently denied claims made by a female colleague of inappropriate behaviour before being cleared.
A representative for Christian’s company clarified: “Red Bull is confident that the investigation has been fair, rigorous and impartial.”
Last weekend, Geri and Christian were pictured together kissing and holding hands, suggesting that their marriage remains strong.
However, Geri has not spoken publicly on the matter.
