David Stearns has found a few more minds to locate and develop talent.
The Mets are bringing in former Cubs bench coach Andy Green in a senior role for player development and reportedly plucking Kris Gross from the Astros for a role in amateur scouting.
Green, whose hire first was reported by The Post’s Joel Sherman, had interviewed for the open manager position that went to Carlos Mendoza and apparently left an impression.
A former Padres manager, Green had served as Cubs bench since 2020.
He was offered a chance to stay in Chicago under new manager Craig Counsell but moved on, now joining Stearns’ developing front office.
As a player, Green appeared in four games with the Mets in 2009.
Gross had been with the Astros for 11 years and was their director of amateur scouting.
The Mets have not confirmed his hire, which was reported by Future Stars Series’ Joe Doyle.
According to the Astros, “Since [Gross] joined the Astros scouting staff, the club has produced more players (58) via the draft than any other Major League organization.”
The Mets’ front office is being reshaped by Stearns, who inherited a system that recently had fired several department heads, including its farm director and director of pro player evaluation.
Marc Tramuta, who had been the Mets’ director of amateur scouting, took a job with the Blue Jays last month.
