Jim Harbaugh is ready for a hero’s welcome.
The Michigan football head coach is scheduled to come back from his suspension this week following the team’s 30-24 victory over rival Ohio State, which he called “a glorious moment” for his team.
Michigan is now ranked No. 2 in the country in the latest Associated Press poll.
Harbaugh will be back just in time for the Big Ten Championship game against No. 17 Iowa after serving a three-game suspension imposed by the conference that stemmed from a sign-stealing scandal famously involving ex-Michigan staffer Connor Stallions.
“My emotions, my focus has been with the team the entire time,” Harbaugh said on Sunday regarding being back with the Wolverines, who went 3-0 in his absence.
“It’s been a tremendous season, right in the exact position that we hoped for, that we worked so hard to be in. It’s onward now. We’ve accomplished many of our goals, but not all of them yet. … The next is winning the conference championship, so that’s where our focus is.”
Harbaugh added, “I would say it’s good to be back, but I never left.”
The win propelled Harbaugh and Michigan to be the first team in Big Ten history to win 30 consecutive regular-season games, and they take their 12-0 record this season to the Big Ten title game.
“The team, the team, the team — it just rings so loud,” Harbaugh continued. “It was not one guy. All guys, the entire team, the way they played, and it was offense complementing the defense, the defense complementing the offense, the special teams as well. Everything was really run clean and precise, highly disciplined football, and a clean game, both sides.”
Harbaugh, who led Michigan to Big Ten titles in 2021 and 2022, would all but clinch a third straight College Football Playoff appearance with a win over Iowa.
Since arriving at Michigan in 2015, Harbaugh has gone 83-25 as coach, and has led the team to back-to-back finishes at No. 3 in the country.
