Margot Robbie has been subbed at this year’s Oscars after she failed to receive a nomination for her leading role in Barbie. The star, 33, was left out of the Best Actress category despite her co-star Ryan Gosling being nominated for Best Supporting Actor.

However, the actress will be in attendance as she is up for an award due to her efforts as a producer on the Mattel blockbuster. Writer-director Greta Gerwig also missed out on the Best Director nod while the film received a nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.

This sent shockwaves across the internet with many fans left angry. Some people have even threatened to “boycott” the ceremony amid the fury.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, users expressed their outrage. One user wrote: “How dare they do that to Margot Robbie let’s all boycott the OSCARS”.

While another wrote: “Ryan was incredible and well deserved but why not Margot????. I won’t watch the Oscars they are going to snub margot Robbie again and joaquin didn’t get nominated for napoleon or beau.” (sic)

Speaking on the subject according to Deadline, Margot said she was proud of her efforts and how the film had managed to “shift culture”.

The movie was a worldwide phenomenon, with her adding that “there’s no way to feel sad when you know you’re this blessed”.

Standing in solidarity with Greta, 40, she went on to say: “Obviously I think Greta should be nominated as a director, because what she did is a once-in-a-career, once-in-a-lifetime thing, what she pulled off, it is. But it’s been an incredible year for all the films.”

Ryan, 43, released a statement last month after it was announced he was up for Best Supporting Actor. He expressed his “disappointment” over the pair being left out as well as acknowledging fellow nominee America Ferrera – who is also up for her supporting role.

“Their work should be recognized along with the other very deserving nominees,” Ryan said.

Robert Downey Jr, who is up against Ryan for his role in Oppenheimer, expressed his dismay over the lineup: “Margot Robbie is not getting enough credit, in my opinion,” he said during a Round Table.

Despite this, Barbie is up for eight awards tonight. With it going head to head with Oppenheimer which has a staggering 13 nominations.

It has been reported that Ryan Gosling will be delighting movie fans with a rendition of his Best Original Song Oscar contender I’m Just Ken.

Viewers can tune into ITV1 and ITVX at 10:15pm on Sunday to see the awards – with the UK coverage being hosted by Jonathan Ross.

All will be revealed this evening once the awards commence from 10:15pm GMT on ITV and ITVX.
