Penny Lancaster, the wife of rock legend Rod Stewart, has had to temporarily step back from her duties as a special constable with the City of London Police due to a knee injury.
The 53-year-old former model, who joined the force in 2021, is now confined to “desk duty” and unable to be on the frontline.
Speaking to OK! Magazine, Penny shared: “I’m still with the City of London police but at the moment I’m not on the frontline, because I’ve got a bit of a knee injury.”
She continued, explaining the situation further: “Even though it appears to be fine, the doctors have recommended that I don’t run yet – which is needed when you’re on the frontline.
“So I’m on desk duty for a while. I’ve been slowed down!”
Lancaster’s decision to join the police force came after her participation in the Channel 4 reality show ‘Famous and Fighting Crime’, where she, alongside other celebrities like Jamie Laing and Katie Piper, volunteered with London’s emergency services.
Following the show, she committed to completing 200 hours of work with the City of London, reports the Daily Star.
Rod has expressed nothing but support for his wife’s career choice. On The Graham Norton Show, the rocker remarked: “She trained for eight months, and she loves it.
“I backed her all the way. She says she loves giving something back, but more importantly, she wants to protect the city she loves.”
Penny, who was part of the police team working during the King’s coronation in May last year, shared her experience on Good Morning Britain.
She said: “It was the most fabulous day and of course, tremendously proud and honoured to have been given that opportunity, along with the City of London Police, that I’m a special constable for.”
