Insights into the marriage of Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes continue as the former This Morning presenting couple are rumoured to have split up. Now their marriage is reported to have rapidly deteriorated after their departure from the ITV show back in 2021.
A spokesperson for them reportedly said that they are seeking to divorce. With both of the 64-year-olds being in the eye of the nation during their 14-year marriage, many have been wondering what may have gone wrong – with several reasons such as Eamonn’s health, their living arrangements and working lives thought to be obstacles in the way of their love lives.
Ruth, who has a son Jack, 21, with Eamonn, was allegedly starting to prep for the split last year. According to The Sun, paperwork from her TV company, Hey Ho Ltd, revealed she paid herself a dividend of £2.2million last year, compared to the £85,000 she claimed the year before.
A source said: “Eamonn and Ruth’s relationship changed when they left This Morning. They started moving in different directions in their careers and their priorities started to change.
“Eamonn was desperate to return to Belfast, which he thinks of as home, but Ruth would never move. It became a bone of contention.”
They added that the presenting pair have already been “living separately” as they continued: “As her ITV career continued, Eamonn went down another path and they became ships in the night. For the past two years, they had led separate lives, professionally and personally.”
It was also previously reported that Ruth and Eamonn planned on “remaining friends” despite the alleged split. The source said: “Ruth has been incredibly caring and while they have been apart for a long time, she has still been helping to nurse him through his health battles.
“Ultimately, she still cares for him deeply. She just knows they can’t be together.”
Express.co.uk has reached out to Ruth and Eamonn’s representatives for comment.
Ruth previously joked about Eamonn leaving her for another woman. On an episode of Loose Women in 2022, the panellists, including Ruth, were discussing being replaced by a younger partner.
The presenter confessed she would rather her husband left her for a 25-year-old than someone her own age, confessing that was her “worst fear”.
She explained: “See I think, people go, ‘Oh, you’d hate it if you were dumped for a younger woman’. I go, ‘No, I would hate it because…’ then I could do the whole cliché thing, ‘Oh, Eamonn is such a cliche, he’s going with a 25-year-old, how sad.’
“But then I think ‘No, the worst thing for me is if he went off with someone the same age.” She candidly added: “I think that is harder than being dumped for someone younger. That’s my worst fear.”
